Description
The Aico Ei408 RadioLINK Switched Input Module triggers alarms in your system when an external device, such as a sprinkler system, activates. This module ensures seamless integration and reliable performance using RadioLINK wireless interconnection technology.
Key Features:
- 10-Year Battery Life: Powered by a tamper-proof, sealed-in lithium cell for a wire-free installation.
- RadioLINK Technology: Connects wirelessly with all other Aico wireless interconnection products.
- Battery and Lifespan: Offers a 10-year lifespan with a tamper-proof lithium cell.
RadioLINK Technology
The Aico Ei408 RadioLINK Switched Input Module RadioLINK to wirelessly interconnect with the rest of the alarm system. Once installed, you need to House Code the switch into the alarm system for proper functionality.
Operation of the Ei408
When the unit receives a volt-free switched hardwired signal, it transmits a RadioLINK alarm signal. The indicator flashes green every 40 seconds to show that the lithium cell power supply is healthy. If the lithium cells deplete, the indicator flashes amber every 10 seconds, signalling that the unit needs replacement.
Compatibility and Connectivity
The Ei408 works with various Aico alarm systems. These include the 140RC series when using an Ei168RC RadioLINK base, the 160e series when using an Ei100MRF RadioLINK+ module, and the Ei3000 series when using an Ei3000MRF SmartLINK module. It also connects to any RadioLINK-enabled CO alarms.
Wireless Connection
The unit eliminates the need for any cabling between the Ei408 and the smoke, heat, and CO alarms in the system. Built-in tamper-proof FDK lithium cells power the unit for at least 10 years under normal usage. Activating the yellow ‘on/off’ switch on the back of the unit powers it up. The LED on the front cover flashes red, amber, and green to indicate activation, then flashes green every 40 seconds to show a healthy power supply. A low battery warning signal flashes amber every 10 seconds when the battery is depleted.
Signal Transmission
The unit has built-in wiring terminals for connection to an external set of volt-free switched contacts. When the contacts close, the Ei408 sends out a RadioLINK alarm signal to trigger all other RadioLINK devices within the system. It operates on the 868 MHz band, designated for security products and allowing only a 1% duty cycle. Thus, continuous transmission and interference from external sources are extremely remote and illegal.
Range and Capacity
The type of building will be the major limiting factor, such as the number and type of walls or ceilings the radio signal must pass through. As a guide, the maximum distance between any of the RadioLINK units in the system should be about 30 meters. The system can include up to 20 RadioLINK units.
House Coding
Units are in ‘Factory Code’ mode when received, meaning they will communicate with each other. They must be ‘House Coded’ to eliminate the risk of adjacent properties communicating with each other. After House Coding, they will only communicate with other RadioLINK units coded at the same time. The Ei408 returns to normal standby mode automatically after 15 minutes. Pressing the ‘House Code’ switch again returns it to normal standby immediately.
Compliance and Design
The Ei408 conforms to EN300220-1 (2000-09) (RF Performance) and EN301489-3 (2002-08) (EMC). It is designed for surface mounting and operates within an ambient temperature range of 4°C to 40°C, with a humidity range of 0 to 90% relative humidity. The unit measures 90mm x 90mm x 43mm and weighs 240g, inclusive of packaging. It comes with a 5-year guarantee and is manufactured in Ireland.
